Is Jogging a Good Way to Lose Weight?

As we continue our look into different ways to lose weight we take a look at jogging and if it is a good option for weight loss. Let me get this out of the way before we get started and say how much I dislike running of any kind. I’m not a graceful runner and I just don’t enjoy it. Ok now that’s out of the way lets take a look at jogging.Running and jogging are effective ways to lose weight and fight weight-related disease, especially when paired with a sensible diet. According to The Runners Guide, it is important to start slowly and work up to workouts that are higher intensities and longer durations. Always consult your doctor before beginning any exercise regime.

One way of increasing the amount of weight loss you will experience during a running or jogging routine is to run or jog in intervals. The University of Alabama at Birmingham Medicine suggests alternating between bursts of running and a recovery period of a less intense activity, such as jogging or walking. Try walking for four minutes and then running for one minute a few times during your workout. As you become more physically fit, you may try increasing the amount of time you spend in the more intense interval.

UAB Medicine suggests that before running or jogging, make sure your shoes are adequate, stating that most runners replace their shoes every three to six months. Also, listen to your body as you begin a workout regime that includes running, jogging or interval training. Allowing your body to dictate the intensity of your workout can prevent injury or stress to your legs and muscles. Also, make sure you take the time to warm up and cool down after each workout to gain the most health benefits from your workout.
