Unhealthy Foods

A lot of people go through their daily lives consuming food that are extremely bad for them that can cause weight gain as well as health problems. When it comes to determining whether a particular food product is bad for you there are a lot of different things to look at like how many calories per serving and what goes in to making it. On the sides of every product sold from chips to McDonalds you see a breakdown of these things  but no one ever takes the time to look it over. For me personally I knew the food I was eating was bad for me but I never looked at the label because I was worried that if I did I may never want to eat that product again. Call it being blind but the way I look at it now I also call it being naive. Watching what you eat and avoiding food that is bad for you can increase how long you live and also help you not gain a lot of weight. To help you with this I’ve listed 3 of the most unhealthy foods that are sold today at your grocery store that you should try and avoid.

The first one is french fries and potato chips. These are my two favorites foods and I have to have them if I’m eating a sandwich or a burger but they are very unhealthy for you. Both of these snack foods contain acrylamide, a known carcinogen and neurotoxin that is formed when foods are baked or fried at high temperatures. There are estimates that acrylamide causes several thousand people to get cancer in America every year. When there were tests conducted on some popular brands of French fries and chips, they found that the acrylamide in a large order of fast food fries were at least 300 times the amount allowed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in a glass of water.

The second that may come as a surprise to many is canned soup. Most canned (and packaged) soups have high levels of trans fats, sodium and artificial preservatives like MSG. Just one cup of canned soup can have almost 1,000 milligrams of salt (and most people eat more than one cup), which is tons considering dietary guidelines recommend consuming no more than 2,400 milligrams for the entire day.

The third unhealthy food that almost everyone consumes is soda. An average can of soda has 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine, artificial food colors and sulphites. Diet sodas have the even-more-unhealthy artificial sweeteners. A major part of the problem is that sodas have become a staple in many people’s diets. A study in the journal Pediatrics found that 56 percent to 85 percent of children consume at least one soft drink a day, and 20 percent of adolescent males drink four or more sodas a day.

I know for many that staying away from these foods may be hard but you should at least try to control how many times you consume them. By cutting back you’ll help to ensure that you won’t gain weight, improve your health and increase your life span.
