Eating Healthy for Just $3 a Day

As someone trying to lose weight and not having thousands of dollars to spend on expensive weight loss programs I usually go online for tips on how to lose weight without having to spend a fortune. I recently came upon this article on how to eat healthily and only spend $3 a day. When I first read the title I thought it was impossible to do and would only be eating bread and water because with the way food prices are going up $3 doesn’t really buy you that much. Boy was I wrong and impressed with what this person came up with. They were able to come up with full meals and only spend $3 a day. Here is the breakdown of price and daily quantities they consumed:

  1. 3 cups cooked brown rice ($0.53)
  2. 2 cups cooked pinto beans ($0.23)
  3. 2 stalks cooked broccoli (360g) ($1.06)
  4. 1 baked sweet potato (180g) ($0.40)
  5. 1 tablespoon olive oil ($0.18)
  6. 1/2 cup sunflower seeds, shelled ($0.22)
  7. 2 cups nonfat milk ($0.37)

I’m still amazed with what people can do with a little determination and a plan. This just goes to show you that even if you don’t have a lot of money you can still eat healthily and lose weight weight spending a lot of money.
